Confusion on how to access approval data

There are many ways described on how to access approval data;

1. $_.approval['tierid'].data
2. $$['tierid']
3. $$_['tierid'].data
4. $$
5. $$_.data

Which created so much confusion to creator. It should be cleanup and clearly explained while keeping the old app intact (backward compatible)
